The Thunderbolt CTE (Career and Technical Education) group recently visited LHHS to explore the variety of programs available to students. The visit provided an opportunity to learn about the diverse courses offered in fields such as engineering, cabinet making, digital media, and more. By seeing firsthand the resources, technology, and hands-on experiences available, our 8th graders gain valuable insights into how LHHS is preparing students for future careers and technical fields.

Thank you to Karalyn Mumm, Tom Steinbeck and Gary Whitby who were willing to come share about their balloons with us! Students learned how hot air balloons work by using the principle that warm air rises. A large fabric balloon, called the envelope, is filled with hot air heated by a burner. As the air inside the balloon gets warmer, it becomes lighter than the cooler air outside, causing the balloon to rise. The pilot can control the balloon's height by adjusting the temperature of the air inside. To descend, they simply let the air cool down. This is how the balloon floats up and down in the sky, guided by the wind.
